Yewande Alimi MD, General Surgery, MGUH/MWHC
Dr Alimi has been the model of leadership and professionalism during her entire residency. She is the chief that most of the junior residents turn to for assistance with any clinical question, help with a paper, or general advice. She has sought out additional leadership responsibilities and always risen to any challenge. In addition to serving as one of two scheduling Chief Residents, she is the secretary-treasurer for the Resident and Associates Section of the American College of Surgeons. For the past two years, she has also served as one of the resident representatives on MedStar Health’s system-side Physician Leadership Council. She manages all these areas with compassion and support for her colleagues. I have never heard her say “no” when asked to assist anyone. She treats all members of the MedStar team with respect, knowing the names of all her co-workers, from attendings to medical assistants, environmental services to nurses. In every facet of her life, she excels and sets the bar to which all residents should strive. She should be the face of MedStar GME.
From Dean Padmore:
I was delighted to see Dr. Alimi’s nomination for the resident SHOUT OUT. I’ve had the privilege of working with her closely over the past two years while she served as the resident representative to the Physician Leadership Council. She has been an active member of the PLC and speaks up regularly to assure the voice of the residents is heard on any matter – from clinical practice changes to EMR workflow. Both Dr. Evans and I have tremendously valued her active involvement on behalf of the house staff across the system. We will miss her as she leaves for Stanford for her fellowship!
