MedStar Health offers a number of resources and support for your general wellbeing and to meet the mental health needs of our GME community, including informal support and advice, convenient and free coaching services, and easy access to mental health treatment.
Through town halls, regular communications, and many other venues you will get regular reminders and updates about wellbeing throughout the year.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the impact of this work on our wellbeing. As clinicians, you navigate unpredictable situations, support patients and families through difficult moments, and work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments every day. The care you provide is selfless, and we are grateful for all you do to support our community’s health.
Taking care of your mental health is important year-round. Through the MedStar Health Center for Wellbeing, associates have access to a variety of resources designed to support both personal and professional wellbeing, including online self-screening tools, 24/7 mental health support for you and your family, online mental health coaching, and other services to help you navigate everyday challenges.
This month, we also want to highlight our Clinical Peer Support Program.
The program connects clinicians with trained peer supporters who provide a safe, confidential space to talk through challenging experiences. Peer supporters offer unbiased listening, coping strategies, and guidance, as well as information about additional professional resources available through the MedStar Health Center for Wellbeing.
Participants are matched with a peer who has a similar scope of practice, affiliation, and level of experience, while also ensuring that the peer is not a close colleague. This helps create a psychologically safe environment where clinicians are supported and heard.

Thank you for the care, compassion, and dedication you bring to our patients, teams, and community.
Sleep is essential for wellbeing, learning, performance, mood, and safe patient care. While fatigue is unfortunately not uncommon during medical training, recognizing the signs and taking steps to address it is important for both you and your patients.
At MedStar, GME will reimburse ride services if you’re too fatigued to drive safely. Additional support is available through mental health coaching and other wellbeing resources.
