In 2020, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) granted the MedStar Health GME sponsoring institution, MedStar Health (GME Consortium), a full, 10-year institutional accreditation! The ACGME Institutional Review Committee review and accredits sponsoring institutions of GME, just like each Residency Review Committee reviews and accredits respective residency and fellowship programs. Since the GME Consortium was newly accredited in 2017, this review action moved MedStar Health from “Initial Accreditation” status to “Continued Accreditation” status. The GME Consortium will undergo both self-study requirements and CLER visits in the interim 10-year cycle.
This accreditation action confirmed that MedStar Health as a sponsoring institution, as well as each of our individual residency and fellowship programs, are in substantial compliance with the Institutional, Common and Program Requirements.
In addition to the 72 ACGME-accredited programs, we sponsor accredited 9 GME programs in specialties such as oral and maxillofacial surgery, podiatry surgery, orthodontics, maternal—fetal medicine, and more.
