Thank you, residents and fellows!

As residents and fellows, you are often the first to make critical decisions, the first to comfort a patient in distress, and the first to step up when challenges arise. You do this with skill, compassion, and a resilience that is inspiring for those of us who have been in the field for many years. The work you do is not easy. It demands long hours, deep emotional strength, and a constant commitment to learning. And yet, you bring your best every day, ready to make a difference.

Your leadership extends beyond patient care in big and small ways.

Through initiatives like the Working Group for Racial Justice (WGRJ), you’ve helped build a more inclusive and equitable learning environment. Your efforts have supported over 50 students through the Visiting Student Diversity Scholarship Fund and welcomed more than 250 prospective students and faculty from diverse backgrounds through our Annual Virtual Recruiting Open House. Participating in programs like the Social Medicine & Health Equity Track and Global Health Equity Track reflect your dedication to providing care where it’s needed most, both locally and around the world.

You step up to make sure your voices are heard. Whether you’re a member of GMEC, PLC, or another committee, you are active advocates and mentors for your peers. You guide junior colleagues, push for meaningful change, and stand up for what’s right. Your passion is shaping the future of medicine.

And, you celebrate and support each other. Through weekend running groups, weddings, first birthday parties, book clubs, and happy hours, our MedStar Health-Georgetown community is strong, and the relationships you are building here will last a lifetime.

So today, we want to say thank you. Thank you for your commitment to this work. Thank you for the care and compassion you bring to your patients. Thank you for inspiring us all. MedStar Health is better because of you.

In honor of Thank a Resident Day, we’ve planned special events. Today, take a moment to celebrate yourself. You’ve earned it!
