As part of our commitment to the safety of our employees and community, we are introducing an Enhanced Safety Screening Policy to strengthen our Workplace Violence Prevention efforts.
Beginning the week of December 2, 2024, a touchless security screening and weapons detection system called Evolv will be implemented at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center Emergency Department. This technology will screen all patients, visitors, and associates, along with their belongings upon entry.
Evolv allows us to detect weapons without disrupting the flow of entrance, enhancing security efficiently. The system is designed to flag potential weapons while ignoring most common personal items, such as keys, coins, and cell phones.
This policy will expand to the remaining eight hospitals with Emergency Departments in a phased rollout. Additional details will be shared with each location as we move forward.
All individuals entering the Emergency Department are expected to comply with this policy and violators may face restrictions from re-entry, except when seeking emergency care.
If you have questions, please contact your entity Security Director or William Pallozzi, Vice President & Chief Security Officer, at william.m.pallozzi@medstar.net.
